    Valdidentro, Pearl of the Alps

Due to its attention to promote sustainable tourism and soft mobility, as of 1 January 2011 Valdidentro is part of the Alpine Pearls Association, a network of 29 alpine resorts from six different countries (Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, and Slovenia).

This network of wonderful tourist destinations - stretching along the entire Alpine Arch just like a "Pearl Necklace "- is committed to promote sustainable tourism in mountain areas, offering a variety of cultural and sporting activities and, at the same time, protecting the climate and preserving the environment through a type of mobility that allows visitors to arrive and move in using public transport and other environmentally friendly vehicles, such as bicycles, mountain bikes, e-bikes and electric vehicles (soft mobility).

The new concept of soft mobility is the core philosophy of the Alpine Pearls Association. Valdidentro promotes it also through a long pedestrian and cycle track that runs through the municipal area and connects all the villages in a long walk that allows to get to the neighboring communities. The path, accessible on foot, by bike and strollers, is surrounded by nature and winds along the whole Valley for more than 13 Km, along the river Viola.

Next to the soft mobility, essential aspects of the philosophy of Alpine Pearls are the respect of natural resources and cultural heritage. A quality eco-vacation is based on a tourism that includes programs that minimize the adverse effects of traditional tourism on the natural environment, and enhance the cultural integrity of local people, and that implement operational strategies in this regard.

In this perspective, the population of Valdidentro takes care of its mountains with ancient gestures perpetuated even today, not only as a popular folklore, but for the need to protect the habitat and its essential ecological processes. Cultural and food & wine events organized for visitors to the Pearl of the Alps are in fact well beyond the folklore aspect: it is to preserve content and gestures of a tradition that protects natural resources and the very life of the resort.
